CRITERIA FOR JUDGING

Each of the following five criteria was assigned a value of 0-20 points. All decisions of the judges were final.

  1. Use of traditional materials: wood, cardboard, paper, foil, etc. Imaginative use of found (scrap) materials. The use of commercially produced dollhouse and miniature components was strongly discouraged.

  2. Artistic combining of recognizable Krakow architectural elements in design. Use of traditional proportion: the Krakow Crib is not three-dimensional. It is of shallow depth with a fully detailed facade and a flat, unornamented back.

  3. Good craftsmanship in execution of project.

  4. Successful use of color (harmonious, dramatic, etc.).

  5. Stylistic attention to architectural and decorative details: windows, flags, surface detail, etc.

PRIZES FOR KRAKOW CRIB MAKING CONTEST

  1. All prizes were awarded at a 2:00 p.m. reception on Sunday, December 14, 1997. Participants did not have to be present to win.

  2. A certificate of participation was given for each entry.

  3. One first place prize and one second place prize were awarded in each contest category.

  4. First place prizes were awarded as followings:

  5. Second place winners in all categories received an award ribbon.

  6. All first and second place winning entries were exhibited at the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University from December 14, 1997 to January 11, 1998.
