Below is reproduced the invitation that was issued to teachers, inviting them to participate in a workshop

FOR
A FREE WORKSHOP ABOUT THE KRAKOW CHRISTMAS CRIB,

a type of Christmas manger modeled after the medieval, renaissance and baroque architecture of Krakow, Poland. This special folk art, unique to the city of Krakow, is made from found materials including cardboard, paper, sequins, beads, metallic cord and brilliantly colored foil. THE CASTELLANI ART MUSEUM OF NIAGARA UNIVERSITY HAS DEVELOPED TEACHER RESOURCE MATERIALS THAT:

  • Introduce the historic architecture of Krakow, Poland--a 1978 UNESCO World Heritage site
  • Show how fanciful interpretations of this architecture are incorporated in Krakow Cribs
  • Include illustrated, step-by-step instructions for making a Krakow Crib
  • Give suggestions for using the crib to meet New York State Learning Standards in a variety of subject areas

    TEACHERS AND STUDENTS ARE ALSO INVITED TO ENTER A DECEMBER 1997 KRAKOW CRIB BUILDING COMPETITION co-sponsored by the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University and the Polish Arts Club of Buffalo, Inc.
