Achieves:
Tomasz Ciecierski, as he
says – was born a painter – and for all his creative life he
has been struggling with painting. Ciecierski’s art constantly
changes. His artistic output consists of closed painting
series, which somehow refer to each other, but which are never
continued. That is “painting about painting”. In the pictures
he describes the act of thinking about a painting and the
process of painting (he presents palettes, brushes, spatulas,
tubes, paints).
The best known cycles are “drafts” and
“landscapes”. In “drafts” he simply jots down the world. There
are the objects of every day use - painting tools. Some of
them are accompanied by words, some elements are crossed out.
Individual sheets resemble a child’s drawing-block. The
drawings seem a bit awkward, banal, but that’s why they say a
lot about the process of artistic creation.
In the
“landscape painting” Ciecierski reveals his passion for
colour. The landscapes make an impression of abstract
paintings, but, actually, there are specific elements: water,
beach, sky, horizon and… artist’s emotions, without which, a
painting would “simply be an aesthetic toy”. He builds his
works on a plain or in a three-dimensional space where smaller
canvases screen one another. Sometimes he juxtaposes them with
monochromatic plains or with photographs.
Ciecierski’s
paintings are well considered constructions and his art is the
practical solving of the theoretical problems. It could be
called “a practical treaty on painting”.
