Perkun (The god of Thunder)
Zofia Stryjenska, 1934

Zofia Stryjenska, one of Poland's most acclaimed artists in period 1918 -1939, found inspiration in the Polish folklore and in this context attempted to portray prechristian Slavic deities. Perkun, the head Baltic deity, was associated with lightning, thunder and fire. The Slavic equivalent went by the name "Perun."
