KUTNO

Kutno, with its population of about 50.000, is conveniently located in the very centre of Poland, right at the crossroads of the two international transportation routes, i.e. E-30 (Berlin - Moscow) and E-75 (Gdansk - Vienna). It is also one of the largest railway junctions in Poland, with a direct access to many important centres, both domestic and European, as well as excellent transfer station for both passengers and freight transport.

The town's assets include also:

  1. location that is very close to the largest Polish markets (Warszawa, LódY, Poznan)
  2. toll motorway North-South to be located 5 km east of Kutno (the town will be developed towards that motorway in the future)
  3. local labour market - skilled and adaptable workforce easily available; labour cost being much lower than in large cities or when compared with international standards
  4. quickly developing infrastructure including:

The key industrial sectors dominating in local economy include pharmaceuticals, electronics, agricultural machinery manufacturing, metallurgy, textiles. Because of the agricultural character of the region, especially the communes surrounding the town, also food-processing, poultry, seed, food or even feather quilts production companies operate here.

With its fertile soils as well as high quality vegetable and fruit production, the region creates almost endless opportunities for the development of more efficient food processing industry.

The advantageous location of the town as well as its well-developed transport network (practically meaning an easy access to clients from the whole of Poland and Europe) spurred quick development of the transport sector. The Dutch transport company "Nijhof-Wassink", which also distributes and services Volvo trucks, built here a very modern transport and service station, hardly comparable to any other of this kind in East-Central Europe. For the same reason, the Swedish "Scania" has recently located in Kutno its central warehouse of spare parts.

Both local authorites and business supporting organizations in Kutno are doing their best to facilitate economic development of the town and the region.

The most current objectives have been carefully worked out and are now parts of the short and long term action plans. The priorities, however, are:

In Kutno there is a very friendly climate and local authorities' support for any kind of inward investment. It is best reflected in some very important foreign investments which have already been located here in Kutno.

A good example of fruitful cooperation between the city and investors is an investment by the American Little League Baseball according to which a two-stage project worth USD 6 million has already been started. The Little League baseball complex will serve young baseball players from 37 countries of the so-called European Region. It will be the largest European facility of this kind where Little League European Championships will be annually held.
