Bialowieza Forest
Visit the only undisturbed primeval deciduous forest remaining in Europe. If you asked Western European birders "do you know of one place in Poland to visit" this would be it. Here you will find the largest herd of free living European Bison and a unique community of 32 species of birds and predatory mammals. There are some 160 nesting species. These include: Black Stork, Honey Buzzard, Short-toed, Booted and Lesser Spotted Eagle, Hazel hen, Green Sandpiper, Eagle Owl, Collared Flycatcher, Common Rosefinch, Nutcracker and Golden Oriole. There are many more and the amount of non breeders is impressive. The Bialowieza forest is ideal for the experienced and the it would be an excellent choice for the less experienced birder also. Here is a list of some of the birds that it is possible to see:
White and Black Stork, Honey Buzzard, Montagu's Harrier, Goshawk, Lesser Spotted, Short-toed and Booted Eagles, Black Grouse, Crane, Spotted, Little and Corncrake, Green Sandpiper, Woodcock, Stock Dove, Eagle, Pygmy, Tenngmalm? and Great Grey Owls, Nightjar, Hoopoe, Wryneck, Grey-headed, Black, Middle Spotted, White-backed and Three-toed Woodpeckers, Red-breasted and Collared Flycatcher, Redwing, River, Blyth's Reed, Marsh, Barred, and Greenish Warbler, Firecrest, Penduline Tit, Nutcracker, Scarlet Rosefinch, Thrush Nightingale, Red-backed Shrike, Serin and Ortolan Bunting.
