Siemianowka Lake

A huge shallow lake fringed by marshes, reed beds and woods. It was built in the 80's. It was immediately colonized by some of the first White-winged Black and Whiskered Terns to breed in Poland. An unusually high number of species are attracted by this water and the large forest in this undisturbed part of the country. Because of the easy walking on the grass beside the ditches many birdwatchers consider Siemianówka' their favourite birding spot in Poland. This is one of the first nesting sites in Poland for Citrine Wagtail. Birds that regularly nest are Little Gulls, Black, White-winged Black and Whiskered terns, Hoopoe and Tawny Pipits.

Other species include: Scarlet Rosefinch, Barred Warbler, Cormorants, waterfowl, Marsh and Montagu's Harriers, grebes, waders, gulls and terns, Spotted, Little and Corn Crakes, Bitterns, White-tailed and Lesser Spotted Eagles and Great White Egrets. Often some of the more interesting Eastern species appear too, birds like the flocks of Red-throated and Black-throated Divers in May. Red-footed Falcon (about daily in mid-May), Pontic (Caspian Yellow-legged) and Mediterranean Gulls, Terek Sandpiper and Red-throated Pipit. Many rarities have been recorded at this site
