The Technical University of Wroclaw
The Technical University of Wroclaw (Politechnika Wroclawska) was founded in 1945 when a group of Polish academic teachers, mostly from Lwow, arrived in Wroclaw, which was still burning from the last siege of World War II. They established the University in the buildings which housed the Technische Hochschule Breslau since 1990. The first class began on 15th of November 1945 and till now, this day is celebrated as University Day.
Since its creation in 1945, the University has awarded over 10.000 Baccalaureate degrees, over 40.000 Master's degrees, 3.470 Doctor's degrees and 395 High Doctor's degrees (Habitation).
Wroclaw Technical University, 1.5 km from the City Center, occupies a large campus, splendidly located on the bank of the Odra river. In addition to their teaching duties academic staff are actively encouraged to engage in curriculum development, constancy, research and other scholarly activities.
Educational Programs
The Technical University of Wroclaw is the second largest school of engineering in Poland. At the present time it offers mainly graduate programs consisting of 10 semesters of study and, to a lesser degree, undergraduate programs lasting 8 semesters. It also offers 4-semester professional associate programs. The University has a significant commitment to research in many fields of engineering as well as in mathematics, physics, and chemistry.
The University offers 5 year Ms.Sc. degree courses and 4.5 year extramatural courses.
Ph. D. programs include all fields of study and multidisciplinary programs. For graduate engineers wishing to complete their knowledge and obtain M.Sc. degree, the school offers 4-semester extramatural degree courses.

The University Government
The University is led by a Rector and three Vice Rectors. The University Senate consist of 65 elected members. The faculty is heeded by Deans who are assisted by two or three deputies each. Students have their own self-government which controls most of the students affairs.
Staff and students
The University Employees nearly 2.000 - faculty members, including 140 Full Professors, 175 Associate Professors, 1.065 Assistant Professors, 800 administrative staff members, and 2000 support and auxiliary staff members. All the academic staff are well-qualified professionally and/or academically, the greater proportion being in possession of a higher degree.
