Klodzko, a town situated on the Nysa Klodzka river, in the center of Kotlina Klodzka (Valley of Klodzko), surrounded by the Srodkowe (Middle) and Wschodnie (Eastern) Sudety mountain ranges. The earliest records about the town in historical chronicles go back to the year 981 AD. Klodzko is situated on the intersection of the roads from Wroclaw, Walbrzych and Opole to border crossings in Boboszów and Kudowa Slone.
Klodzko co-operates with the towns of Nachod in the Czech Republic Bensheim in Germany and Carvin in France.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

The area of 46 hectares in covered with the Old Town architecture the town center, going back to 13th C, and preserved in the same architectural form. Almost 400 historical buildings are recorded in the State Historical Monuments Register. The most important ones are: the Gothic bridge, Virgin Mary Church, former Jesuit Collegium, the Rosary Mary Church and Franciscan Monastery, Town Hall, defence walls, the Church of Christ the King and Grey Sisters' Monastery, fountain the town market, the stronghold on Forteczna Mountain a Owcza Mountain, the Klodzko Land Museum, underground tourist route.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The town possesses the following cultural facilities: the Klodzko Culture Center, Municipal Public Library, the Klodzko Land Museum with a rich collection of regional souvenirs, Cultural Education Center, two art galleries, the Klodzko Culture Center Theatre.
Some of the regular cultural events taking place in Klodzko include National Theatre Clashes (November), the Klodzko Organ Music Evenings (monthly, from April to October), the Klodzko Art Evening (twice quarterly).
Education is provided in eight primary schools, two comprehensive secondary schools and four vocational and secondary vocational schools.
The Klodzko Sports and Recreation Center, unique on the domestic scale, is situated on 1 0 hectares consists of playing fields for all sorts of games, facilities for individual physical training, five tennis courts, swimming pools, hostel, camping site with full social, sanitary and catering equipment.
The town has convenient road and rail connections with most of the country, as well as with the nearby spas and tourist-recreation towns. In 1995 a new, automatic telephone exchange has been installed, capable of serving 15 thousand numbers, providing automatic access to domestic and foreign telephone connections.
Klodzko is well-provided with the municipal technical infrastructure: central heating plant, sewage-treatment plant, gas switching station and drinking water intake ensure a smooth and undisturbed development of the town in the long run.There are six tourist agencies operating in the town. The hotel and hostel facilities can receive 454 visitors at the same time all year round. There are also seven banks, 4,583 economic entities including 821 trade enterprises, 34 restaurants, bars, cafes.

INDUSTRIAL CHARACTERISTICS

Large-scale industry and small-scale enterprises provide their services in the areas of production and services. Some of the goods produced in Klodzko include: industrial and construction fittings and fixtures, construction materials, food products, clothing, underwear, hosiery, furniture, fishing equipment, gold and silver jewellery. Services include: building and road construction, supplying water and energy, sewage, etc. to building lots, polygraphic services.
The majority of the inhabitants active professionally is employed in trade and services, including well-developed health service - two hospitals, two health centres, ambulance service. At present, 2,757 economic entities are active in the area of Klodzko. These include 659 trade enterprises, 20 restaurants, bars, cafes. In 1995, a new shopping hall was opened, which covers the area of 2,800 sq/m.

DISTRICT OF KLODZKO

The district of Klodzko forms a ring surrounding the town of Klodzko and covers the central part of the Klodzko Valley which, in turn, is a major part of the Klodzko Land. It is a region of outstanding tourist, climatic and curative values, of interesting and picturesque landscapes, hardly matched by any other region in the country. The Klodzko Valley is the largest of all the valleys in the Sudety Mountains, surrounded by the Bystrzyckie, Orlickie and Stolowe Mountains on the west, the 8nie2nik massif, the Bialskie and Zlote Mountains on the east, and the Bardzkie and Sowie Mountains on the north-east. To a large extent, the valley is isolated from neighboring regions by the mountains. The valley, surrounded by the mountains, together with the mountain ravines of the Nysa Klodzka river and its tributaries group a number of old, historical towns, health resorts renown in Europe, farming villages and settlements picturesquely situated among forests. The district of Klodzko comprises 35 villages, starting from large one of a small-town character (Krosnowice, Oldrzychowice) to small ones, with very few inhabitants (Droszków, Wilcza, Morzyszów, Rogówek).

INFASTRUCTURE
In the district, there is the District Culture Center based in Oldrzychowice, which performs the role of the organizer of the cultural and educational activity,the animator of the amateur arts movement and a promoter of professional arts. Its activities are performed four clubs and ten village community centers.
The district possesses dense network of national, provincial and district roads. Each town in the district has got convenient connections with the centrally-situated Klodzko, which is only 98 km away from Wroclaw - the center of Lower Silesia, a university city, and only 55 km away from Walbrzych - the site of a Province.

INDUSTRIAL CHARACTERISTICS
The district possesses a thorough inventory of mineral deposits, which documents the existence of a wide variety of raw material deposits: granite, lime marble, amphibole, sandstone, silt, clay, sand, gravel, vessel quartz, quartzite and others.
Predominant industries are: mining, small-scale industries and services.

There is a number of parks and historical monuments of a post-mansion type.
Because of t e scarcity of industry, the natural environment of the district conforms to all the norms of pollution. Water in the rivers Nysa Klodzka, Biala Ladecka and Bystrzyca Dusznicka belongs to the 1st and 2nd classes of purity.
The district prides itself in its high-value tourist and natural conditions, thus the investments should go in the direction of guest houses, small tourist hotels construction, catering and summer house construction in the villages of: Wilcza, Droszków, Jaszkowa Górna (Gaj- settlement), Podtynie, Podzamek and Morzyszów.
