Koscian Community is situated in Koscianski administrative district in Wielkopolskie province, at the river-basin of Obra. The river flows through the town from the south to the north.

The community has an extremely good location. In the administrative division the community occupies the south-west area of Wielkopolskie province. Its territory surrounds Koscian town with a population of 5 thousand residents, which constitutes a separate administrative unit and is a seat of Koscian administrative district's authorities. Railway route Wroc3aw-Poznan, international road E-261 Poznan-Wroc3aw and provincial road No 308 Nowy Tomyśl-Kutno run through the community's area.

Kościan community belongs to the biggest territorial units of Wielkopolska because it covers an area of 20,227 ha. 14,6 thousand people live in 47 villages. 36 administrative villages constitute the community's area. The biggest of them are: Kie3czewo, Racot, Turew and Oborzyska Stare. All villages in the community have a water supply system, a gas supply system and telephone line. Thanks to so well developed network there is a possibility of constructing successive terminals. Asphalt roads, of which 25 km have been recently built, lead to each village. In order to improve the aesthetics and safety of children going to schools, the total number of 10,000 m2 of pavements and car parks have been built.

Koscian community is a typically agricultural region of high farming culture and a very good indicator of farming land use. In the whole area of 20,227 ha arable lands constitute 2,177 ha and forests 2,181 ha, which is 10.1% of the total area. The remaining part of the area is covered by meadows, pastures and orchards. In the territory of the community 970 individual farms run agricultural activities disposing with 8,661 ha including 6,485 ha of arable lands and 9 Farming Production Cooperatives occupying the area of 3,228 ha including 2,177 ha of arable lands, and also 4 big farming companies: Racot Horse Study one of the biggest studs in Europe, 'Danko' Plant Cultivation in Chorynia, which is a follower of rich traditions of corn cultivation and is the owner of 20 registered corn species known in Poland and abroad Seed Farming Station in Kobylniki and Turew farm included into AGROS Farming Corporation limited company in Czempin, which comprises 5,316 ha of lands altogether with 3,521 ha of arable lands.

Moreover Kościan Community is known for Polish Scientific Academy's Institute in Turew, which deals with a research of basic ecological processes taking place in the farming landscape.

Apart from farming almost 700 economic entities of different size and potential are registered in the area of the community. They are environment friendly production plants acting in fields: car, transport and food as well as commercial stores and service firms.

For over 3 years intensive geological research in the range of gas and oil search has been taking place in the area of the community. On the base of the yet unfinished research gained so far and approved, it has been discovered that there are large supplies of natural gas, which are initially assessed to 10 billions m3 which gives 20 or even more years of exploitation. Polish Oil and Gas Mining, which is an investor in gas Searching, plans to construct a gas mine in the area of the community in 3-4 years' time. This creates for Koscian town and community a perspective of using gas, a cheap and ecological source of energy for industrial and communal purposes.

In 1992, in the area of the community and 3 neighbouring communities (Krzywin, Czempin, Srem) gen. Dezydery Ch3apowski Agriecological Landscape Park was established. Its creation contributed to quicker works on construction and establishing new plantings among fields based on trees patterns established in the 20s of the previous century by the forerunner of modern farming, gen.

Dezydery Ch3apowski from Turew. The plantings among fields fulfil a very important function in farming economy: prevent too big soil evaporation as well as wind and water erosion, constitute clean surface water protection and contribute to harvest increase.

Kościan Community is first of all connected with one of the biggest in Europe Horse Stud in Racot, famous for tarpan breeding. It is worth mentioning that the stud has got an attractive recreation and hotel base. Horse ridding, huntings, sledding cavalcades and landscape tours enthusiasts will find their haven here. Not average advantages of Racot attract guests from Poland and abroad. Apart from this, nature lovers will find wonderful ecologically clean places for rest in the community. Microclimate of Wonieskie lake, leisure base in Debiec Nowy and Gryzynka attract people to come here.
