Community Lubowo is situated in Wielkopolskie Province, since 1 Janu- ary 1999 in Gniezno District. It lies on both sides (of the railway and road routes, joining Poznan and Gniezno. The community is, in its nature, an agricultural area.
The history of Lubowo goes hack to the 13th c. In the 14th c. the village
was a property of the Dryjowie family, sometimes called Sobiejiicliowie. They
founded the first church in the village. In 1458 Lubowo was considered a
town. At the end of the 15th c. Lubowo belonged to Lukasz Górka - the
Poznan castellan with a "Boat" on his coats-of-arms. The situation of Lubowo
on the trade route joining East and West contributed to the huge development
of the village. It had the population of approximately 300 people then. Since
the middle of the 18th c. a stage coach used to join Lubuwo with Poznan and
Gniezno and Torun. The succesful developnent of the village was slowed down
by the three annexations of Poland. The Prussians' policy aimed at depriving
the Polish people of their national culture. The two events - the successful
Wielkoposkie Uprising and the end of I World War - brought freedom to the
inhabitants of Lubowo.
The main place of interest in Community is the wooden St.Michael's Parish
Church erected in 1600. The most precious historic places are: a defensive
settlement with the ruins of palladium of the first Polish Christian governors -
Mieszko I and Boles3aw Chrobry. founded in the 10th/11th c. on Ostrów
Lednicki, and a heritage park and the Wielkoposki Ethnographic Park. In the
area of the parks the annual celebrations of Kupa3a Night and the other cultur-
al events are held.
In 1969 the Museum of the First Piasts was set up on Ostrów Lednicki. 1975 in Dziekanowice the Wielkopolski Ethnographic Park was founded
which gathered the monuments of rural wooden building located in Wielkopolska Region. In 1988 the Lednicki Scenic Park with the area of 4,854 ha
was set up and it encompassed the west part of the community. During the
holiday season, the Piastowski Route is visited by 100 thousand of Polish
and foreign tourists. Bed places are provided by the "Victoria" Hotel, the
youth hostel in Lubowo and six agrotourist farms. The cycling path Gniczno-Poznan is another tourist attraction.
The main directions of the community development arc the development
of tourism and hoarding base, the promotion of ecological agriculture and
