Panie burmistrzu, czy jest jakaś główna cecha samego Swarzędza i jego mieszkańców?
- Myślę, że tak. To miasto ma swój charakter, swoja ogromną tradycję rzemiosła meblarskiego i indywidualnej przedsiębiorczości, zaradności. To się widzi i czuje na każdym kroku,
zwłaszcza w obecnych warunkach trudnego dostosowywania się do nowych reguł gry rynkowej. Cała gmina liczy 37 tysięcy mieszkańców, ale na jej terenie działa aż 7 tys. zarejestrowanych podmiotów gospodarczych. Nie są to na ogół firmy
duże, ale są i pracują, zresztą tych wielkich też wkrótce przybędzie.
- Dookoła wszystko błyskawicznie się zmienia i dotyczy to także Swarzędza. W jakim kierunku te zmiany powinny iść, jakie byłyby najkorzystniejsze dla
miasta i jego mieszkańców?
- Potrzebny nam jest rozwój harmonijny, uwzględniający wszystkie potrzeby i interesy. Mamy bardzo dobre położenie geograficzne, mamy piękne tereny i ogromne jezioro, chcemy więc stworzyć naszym
współmieszkańcom jak najlepsze warunki do zamieszkania, pracy i wypoczynku. Dla przykładu: jeszcze kilka lat temu wszystko wskazywało na to, że będzie Swarzędz taką kolejną "sypialnią" Poznania, że i u nas powstaną ogromne
kompleksy wielkich budynków mieszkalnych ze wszystkimi tego konsekwencjami, a liczebność mieszkańców miasta wzrośnie do 50 tysięcy. Udało się nam zahamować te zamiary, za to niezwykle intensywnie rozwijamy indywidualne budownictwo
jednorodzinne. Zresztą nie ma innego wyjścia, miasto już teraz staje się bardzo atrakcyjnym miejscem do życia i corocznie osiedla się u nas około tysiąca nowych mieszkańców, dosłownie z terenu całego kraju. Zmienia się też okolica.
W pobliskich miastach jest coraz mniej rolników, dawne grunty orne przeznacza się na działalność produkcyjną, usługową czy handlową lub na budownictwo mieszkaniowe, to znów pociąga za sobą konieczność prac infrastrukturalnych,
komunalnych itp.
- Powstaje jednak pytanie, za jakie pieniądze chce pan to wszystko zbudować? Potrzebne są ogromne kwoty, a sami rzemieślnicy tego nie udźwigną.
- Nie myślę o rzemieślnikach, zresztą samo miasto jest
już trochę przeinwestowane. Ale czas Swarzędza dopiero się zaczyna. W ostatnich dwóch, trzech latach rozdysponowaliśmy bardzo atrakcyjne tereny inwestycyjne wzdłuż drogi nr 2, na wschód od Poznania, aż do odległego od nas o 3
kilometry Paczkowa, na południe i północ od tej magistrali. To bardzo cenne grunty, a wykupiły je duże, bogate firmy ze świata, reprezentujące głównie kapitał włoski, niemiecki i belgijski, ale nie tylko. Pierwsze przedsiębiorstwa
ruszyły już w tym roku. Na przykład Austriacy startują z okuciami meblowymi, Niemcy - z meblami i akcesoriami biurowymi, Belgowie kończą właśnie fabrykę profili okiennych. Powstaną też terminale dla TIR-ów i magazyny przeładunkowe.
Drugie centrum powstaje przy drodze nr 5, w kierunku Gniezna, w Bogucinie i Janikowie, gdzie już się rozpoczął boom inwestycyjny.
- To w sumie wizja bardzo obiecująca, tym bardziej że oznacza ona nie tylko nowoczesne
inwestycje i technologie, ale także nowe miejsca pracy, no i wpływy do miejskiej kasy.
- I o to nam właśnie chodzi. Trudno mi w tej chwili operować dokładnymi liczbami, ale z pewnością będą to setki atrakcyjnych stanowisk
pracy, a to oznacza większą zamożność naszych mieszkańców i naszego miasta również. Powtórzę: w naszej wizji Swarzędz ma być atrakcyjnym miastem do mieszkania, pracy i wypoczynku. I takim wkrótce będzie.

Mr Mayor, could you tell us what differentiates Swarzędz and its inhabitants from other towns in Poland?
- The tradition of furniture crafts, and the entrepreneurial skills and resourcefulness of the inhabitants are long in Swarzędz. This can be seen everywhere,
especially in the current, difficult situation of adjusting to the new standards of a market economy. Seven thousand businesses are registered in the municipality, the population of which is 37 thousand. These are mainly medium
size businesses, yet they are very active, and new bigger ones will be established soon.
- Reality is rapidly changing, and that applies to Swarzędz, too. In what direction should the changes go to be the most profitable to
the town and its inhabitants?
- What is needed is steady development. Swarzędz is centrally located in a picturesque area, near a large lake. We want to provide our inhabitants with comfortable living, working and
recreational conditions. Only a few years ago the odds were that Swarzędz would become just another suburb of Poznań. That would mean that several housing estates would be built here and the population would grow to 50 thousand. We
have managed to bring these plans to a halt, and in turn, we have promoted the construction of detached houses. We have had no other option, as the town is becoming a more and more attractive place to live. Each year, approximately
one thousand people from all over Poland decide to move here.
The area around Swarzędz is also changing. The number of farmers in the nearby villages is constantly decreasing. The former farming lands are being used for
manufacturing, service and commercial businesses, as well as housing construction. This requires the development of infrastructure and other services.
- The question arises where do you want to take the money from in order
to implement all these plans. They require huge expenditures, which cannot be made by craftsmen alone.
- I do not think the craftsmen can do that; the town already is over-invested. However, the Swarzędz's turn day is now.
In the last three years, we have sold very attractive investment sites East of Poznań, along road no.2. up to PaczkĽSwarzędz, as well as North and South of the road. The sites have been bought by world leading companies represented
mainly by Italian, German and Belgian capital. This year, the first companies have began their operations. The Austrians will manufacture furniture fittings, the Germans furniture and office accessories there. The Belgians are
about to finish the construction of a factory which will manufacture window frames. In the near future, terminals for heavy lorries and reloading stores will be built.
- The other centre will be built by road no.5, in the
direction of Gniezno, Bogucin and Janikowo, where an investment boom has already started.
- These are very promising prospects. They mean not only the introduction of modern technologies and investments, but also the
creation of new jobs and income for the municipality.
- And this is exactly what we want. It is difficult to give precise numbers right now, but definitely hundreds of attractive jobs will be created there. This means income
growth for the town and its inhabitants. Let me say it once again; it is our aim that Swarzędz becomes an attractive place to live, work and relax in.
