The Market Economy Research Institute considered Szamotuły a county town most attractive to investors (category A).

The commune can be easily accessed by international, national, provincial and local roads. Szamotuły is located on the intersection of important routes: North - South rail route (Baltic Coast - Poznań, Warsaw - Silesia) and West - East road route (Paris - Berlin - Moscow), which lends itself to economic development. The town also has a dense network of local access roads.

The county's geographic location, communal and municipal offices, the presence of processing industry, agriculture, health centres, legal and financial institutions, cultural and educational centres have made in the central point of the Wielkopolska region, the centre of many offices and industrial plants.

Agriculture and industry are the most important components of the county's economic structure. Abundant raw materials and high cultivation and breeding culture favour the development of this sector of economy. Szamotuły participated in the "Europe's Days", organised annualy, Wine Fair in Brignoles. In 1995, the town was awarded the "Gold Partner Stars" by the European Commission in Brussels.
