Szamotuły, the capital of the commune and county, is located in the heart of the Wielkopolska Province, in the estuary of lower Warta on Sama River, 28 km north - west of Poznań, one of the most important economic centres of Poland.

The Market Economy Research Institute considered Szamotuły a county town most attractive to investors (category A).

The commune can be easily accessed by international, national, provincial and local roads. Szamotuły is located on the intersection of important routes: North - South rail route (Baltic Coast - Poznań, Warsaw - Silesia) and West - East road route (Paris - Berlin - Moscow), which lends itself to economic development. The town also has a dense network of local access roads.

The county's geographic location, communal and municipal offices, the presence of processing industry, agriculture, health centres, legal and financial institutions, cultural and educational centres have made in the central point of the Wielkopolska region, the centre of many offices and industrial plants.

Agriculture and industry are the most important components of the county's economic structure. Abundant raw materials and high cultivation and breeding culture favour the development of this sector of economy. The main representatives of industry include: on oil mill (food industry), Cehave - fooder, mills (processing of agricultural produce), furniture factory (timber processing). Medium sized and small trade and service companies add to the importance of the county's economy.

Developed technical infrastructure (modern soild waste landfill, mechanical and biological waste treatment plant, well developed water supply system, telephone network, quicly expanded gas network) as well many facilities and areas allocated for economic development (industrial construction and services) make the town and commune of Szamotuły a great place for different economic ventures.

Investment in supported by the existing administrative and industrial structures and towns and communes interested in the development of entrepreneurship.

The town and commune of Szamotuły is looking for investors interested in the development of agricultural and food processing, production, trade, services, environmental protection and expansion and upgroding of technical and social infrastructure.

Local authorities have established international co - operation with partner towns in culture, sports and tourism, education, agriculture and processing industry. Among the partners of Szamotuły are such towns as Gross - Gerau (Germany), Tielt (Belgium), Bruneck (Italy) and Brignoles (France) as well Kinna (Sweden) and Ond En Nieuw Gastel (Holland). Szamotuły participated in the "Europe's Days", organised annualy, Wine Fair in Brignoles. In 1995, the town was awarded the "Gold Partner Stars" by the European Commission in Brussels.

Developed sports and recreation infrastructure (sports hall, tennis courts, swimming pool), neighbourhood of extensive forests (e.g. Notecka Forest), water reservoirs and many unique historical and architectural monuments provide favoruable conditions for tourism and sports.
