Warsaw: Life and Death in the Ghetto which the Germans established there during WWII

"And there commenced a parade, unique in the history of the world and humanity. It moved rapidly - those who walked slowly were killed and those alive, walked over them. The SS-men hardly checked any documents, directing the column now to the left now to the right to the Umschlagplatz. Those who looked around, got killed, but nonetheless people did look to say good bye, at least with a look, to their dearest from whom they were being separated for eternity."

Diary entry by Henryk Rudnicki, September 1942
