Degenarate Art |
The exploitation for political purposes of art and of the artist creating it, so as to underscore thereby the prestige and splendor of power, is not a unique development of the 20th century. We know it to have happened during various periods of human existence. However, that which occurred with the participation of contemporary art when it was confronted during the thirties and forties of this century with the ideologists of communism and fascism - cannot be reduced to a simple relationship between art and power. It has been one of the most traumatic experiences of contemporary art, the reasons and consequences of which will long continue to generate heated discussions.
