Polish Studies at State University of New York at Albany

The Institution

Established in 1844, the University at Albany is the oldest state-chartered public institution of higher education in New York. Designated as a University Center of the State of New York, Albany has a broad mission of undergraduate and graduate education, research and public service. Approximately 16,000 students are enrolled in the eight degree-granting schools and colleges of the University

Polish Studies and Language Instruction

Polish Studies offerings are limited to two Polish language courses that are offered, on occasion,through the program of Slavic and Eurasian Studies in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures.

POL 101L Elementary Polish @ @

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Beginner's course with audio-lingual approach: fundamentals of language structure and sounds; emphasis on correct pronunciation. Four classes, two laboratories each week. Native speakers of Polish may not take this course without permission of chair.
POL 102 Intermediate Polish @ @

COURSE DESCRIPTION: After completion of structural study, emphasis is given to reading in conjunction with a continuation of the audio-lingual method. Four classes, two laboratories each week. Prerequisite(s): A Pol 101 or equivalent. Native speakers of Polish may not take this course without permission of chair.
POL 290 Topics in Polish Studies @@

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Selected topics in Polish literature, film, theater and culture. May be repeated for credit with change of topic. Consult current schedule of classes for topic. The course is also counted for credit in the Slavic program.
