COURSE DESCRIPTION: An introduction to the ways in which sociologists understand deviance, including the major theories and their implications for social control and/or social change. One, the Social Disorganization Theory is discussed in the context of Chicago at a time of massive immigration and high crime. and is based on the 1920 book by W.l. Thomas and Florian Znaniecki: "The Polish Peasant in Europe and the United States"
